Emphasizes ethical considerations, implementation strategies, and future trends.
INSC 555: Organizational Culture Assessment
Equips graduate students with the tools and frameworks necessary to assess organizational culture as a crucial factor in successful knowledge management (KM). Students will explore methods for identifying cultural attributes that influence knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation. Emphasis is placed on qualitative and quantitative assessment techniques, including surveys, interviews, and cultural audits. Through case studies and applied analysis, students will learn to interpret cultural data and recommend strategies for alignment with KM goals. Course activities include opportunities for students to conduct a culture assessment and propose actionable strategies for KM improvement.
INSC 556 – Communities of Practice in Knowledge Management
Explores the strategic role of communities of practice (CoPs) in knowledge management. Students will examine how KM leaders initiate and sustain CoP programs, applying proven practices for community creation, cultivation, and leadership. Through real-world case studies and practical frameworks, students will gain insight into the principles of community management and the impact of CoPs on organizational learning. The course emphasizes hands-on learning, culminating in a project to evaluate a community of practice.
INSC 527 – Knowledge Organization Systems
History, philosophy, and theory of concepts, categories, and classification. Methods and tools for the construction, evaluation, and critical analysis of systems for knowledge organization including taxonomy and ontology.
