Robert Booker Named 2020 CCI Diversity Award Winner
The University of Tennessee College of Communication and Information presented civil rights activist, author, and historian Robert Booker with the 2020 CCI Diversity Award at the 12th annual CCI Experience Diversity Banquet, which was held Feb. 21 at Bearden Banquet Hall.
“The Power of Connecting” was the theme of this year’s banquet that featured dramatizations from members of the CCI Diversity Student Leaders Society on the topics of health insurance, prescription drugs, and immigration.

DSLS Travels to NYC for Networking Trip
Ten student members of the CCI Diversity Student Leaders Society traveled to New York City for a networking trip to visit media and communication organizations during Spring Break. Led by CCI DSLS Director and CS Lecturer Alice Wirth, with assistance from CCI Dean Mike Wirth and Communication Studies Lecturer Nick Meade, the group met with a number of communication and information professionals, including nine CCI alumni.

Cohen Honored with 2019 CCI Diversity Award
Longtime Knoxville social justice and civil rights pioneer Arnold Cohen was presented with the CCI Diversity Award at the 11th annual CCI Experience Diversity Banquet on February 22 at Bearden Banquet Hall.
The evening’s theme, “We Are the World, We Are the People,” was captured throughout the evening with dramatic performances, dance, music, and talks by both Cohen and keynote speaker Stan Bowie, associate professor from the College of Social Work.

CCI’s Diversity and Inclusion Week 2017 Recap
The College of Communication and Information’s eighth annual Diversity and Inclusion Week – September 25–28 – featured keynotes by UT Chancellor Beverly Davenport and Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, nine panel sessions and a diversity festival.
More than 1,100 people attended the four day event, which dealt with a variety of topics including: mental health and media effects, being comfortable in your own skin, social media and trolling, immigration and respect for the America dream, respect for religion, free speech and politics, disagreeing in a civil fashion, and bridging hidden divides.The theme for 2017 was “Diversity and Inclusion: R-E-S-P-E-C-T.”

Civil Rights Leader to be Honored at CCI's Diversity Banquet
The College of Communication and Information will honor the Rev. Harold Middlebrook—a pastor and Civil rights activist who worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr.—with the CCI Diversity Award at the college’s ninth annual Experience Diversity Banquet on Friday.
The banquet will be held at 7 p.m. at Buddy’s Banquet Hall in Knoxville. The banquet is a key fundraiser for CCI Diversity Student Leaders Society field trips and other activities students have the opportunity to participate in throughout the year.

2015 CCI Diversity and Inclusion Week
The College of Communication and Information hosted its sixth annual Diversity and Inclusion Week September 28 – October 1.
More than 1,100 participants joined the discussions, dialogue and learning across the week’s 9 sessions, two keynotes and the Diversity Festival. The 2015 theme was “Unifying and Transforming Our World” with daily sub-themes of Unifying and Transforming: “Our Self,” “Our Home,” “Our Community” and “Our Workplace.”

UT CCI Banquet to Honor Free Medical Clinic Founder Tom Kim
The College of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will hold its seventh annual Experience Diversity Banquet at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Bearden Banquet Hall. The event is open to the public.
The keynote speaker is John Onuoha, an inspirational speaker and performer and Air Force Academy graduate. Onuoha is the director of project and product portfolio management at OptumInsight in St. Louis, Missouri.

CCI Diversity Banquet to Honor WBIR's Robin Wilhoit
The College of Communication and Information will hold its annual Experience Diversity Banquet at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, at the Bearden Banquet Hall, 5806 Kingston Pike, in Knoxville.
The keynote speaker is Robin Wilhoit, news anchor for WBIR-TV in Knoxville. Wilhoit also will receive the 2014 College of Communication and Information Diversity Award.
Alice R. Bowling Wirth, a lecturer in the college’s School of Communication Studies and director of the college’s Diversity Student Leaders Society (DSLS), said the banquet is the society’s major fundraiser for the year.
