Abiose Adams curriculum vitae (PDF)
Adams is a journalist with over 15 years’ experience in the coverage of public health, environment, and oil and gas. She was the senior program manager at Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation, a non-profit newsroom supported by The MacArthur Foundation, where she trained Nigerian journalists in investigative reporting. She also raised funds from Open Society Initiative for West Africa and U.S. Consulate in Nigeria for workshops in factchecking, data, and accountability journalism. Under her leadership, journalists did ground-breaking investigations that resulted in government remedial actions and policy shifts. As a major component of the grants, she also devised multiple funding streams for the sustainability of journalism.
In 2021, she received the Bertha Fellowship to investigate corruption in Africa’s first oil spill clean-up project in Niger Delta and for the production of a stage play as a tool for storytelling and audience engagement. The play, Environmental Refugees, was staged at the community’s townhall meeting. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and Master of Arts from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, New York, with a concentration in business and economics reporting.
Her master’s thesis, which focused on oil and gas pollution, won the Morton Mint Fellowship for the thesis of high impact in her graduating year. She holds a diploma in environmental reporting from the Institute of International Journalism, Berlin, Germany, and she is a fellow of the World Federation of Science Journalists. During her doctoral studies, she teaches Multimedia Journalism Writing, where she is primary instructor of record and assists with research about internet, broadband access, and social media.
Adams is curious about novel ways of storytelling to keep in pace with the changing news consumer behavior and demands in a dynamic media landscape. Her research interests are innovative storytelling, audience engagement, fundraising for media sustainability, and business models.
