Faculty Earn Campus ORE Awards
Three professors from the College of Communication and Information were recognized for their scholarship at the inaugural UT Office of Research and Engagement (ORE) Research Awards Luncheon on Monday, March 25.
CCI Interim Associate Dean for Academic Programs, Chancellor’s Professor and BOV Professor Suzie Allard (SIS) received a Research Spotlight Award in recognition of being CCI’s top sponsored research scholar.
Associate Professor Nick Geidner (JEM) received ORE’s Excellence in Community Engagement Award for his Land Grant Films’ projects through the School of Journalism and Electronic Media. Allard Named Chancellor's Professor
Suzie Allard (SIS), CCI associate dean for research and director of the Center for Information & Communication Studies, has been named a Chancellor’s Professor by UT Interim Chancellor Wayne Davis. “Appointment as a Chancellor’s Professor constitutes the highest honor that can be accorded a UT Knoxville faculty member. This designation recognizes extraordinary, nationally or internationally recognized, scholarly attainment in an individual discipline or field as well as a record of excellence in teaching and service to the university.”

CCI Receives More than $850,000 in Grants to Train Information Science Experts
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s School of Information Sciences in the College of Communication and Information has received two grants which total more than $850,000 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to train information science experts.
The larger of the two grants involves Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir as principal investigator along with co-principal investigators SIS Professor and Interim Director Dania Bilal and SIS Associate Professor Rachel Fleming-May. They have been awarded a two-year $811,501 grant from the IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian program. Tenopir Returns to Faculty – Allard to Lead CCI Research
Chancellor’s Professor and BOV Professor Carol Tenopir will step down from her CCI research administrative role and return to the SIS faculty on July 1, 2014.
Tenopir’s successor will be Suzie Allard who was named CCI Associate Dean for Research and Director of the Center for Information and Communication Studies.

Associate Professor and Associate Director Suzie Allard (SIS) has been selected as the recipient of the 2013 Library Journal Teaching Award (see press release below and the Library Journal’s feature story on Allard).

SIS Receives Two More IMLS Grants
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Center for Information and Communication Studies has received funding for projects to support rural librarians and increase Hispanic participation in teaching library science.
The grants were announced by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)as two of the 32 Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian grants totaling $10.3 million.

UT School of Information Sciences Recruiting Students for the Emerging Field of Science Data Curation
SciData is a new master’s initiative at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, School of Information Sciences that focuses on science data management.
Scientific data is growing in scale and complexity across all scientific disciplines, which is leading to an increased need for professionals who specialize in scientific data curation research and education.
