As one of the most consequential executives in modern American sports history, Jim Delany’s thirty-plus-year tenure as commissioner of the Big Ten Conference fundamentally transformed the landscape of intercollegiate athletics.
CCI professor of practice and award-winning sports writer and broadcast journalist Gene Wojciechowski will sit down with Delany to discuss the past, present, and future of college athletics. He will offer unique perspectives based on his experiences as a Division I athlete, NCAA investigator, conference commissioner, television-rights negotiator, TV network creator, USA Basketball president, gender equity advocate, and now, private consultant.
Delany will share his insights on a range of topics, including NIL (Name, Image, Likeness), transfer portal rules, conference expansion, the blurring of the college sports model vs. professional sports model, facilities, the role of universities, the NCAA’s role as a monitor, the have and have nots in college athletics, the College Football Playoff, the Final Four, and the economic and ethical challenges facing college athletics.
