CCI Intercultural Week March 18-21
In alignment with Strategic Goal 3 for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the College of Communication and Information, we present CCI Intercultural Week 2024 March 18-21. This event is being held to celebrate and sustain a college culture where diversity, equity, inclusion, and community are vital for creating a sense of belonging for all CCI members. Intercultural Week is designed to help us gather, acknowledge, appreciate, and celebrate the diversity of the CCI community and is intended to be interactive to encourage CCI members to showcase and own all their diverse aspects.
Event Schedule
Monday, March 18
Continental Breakfast Reception w/DEI Committee Members
9–9:30 am – CCI Third Floor, Main Lobby
- Start your morning off right by connecting with members of your CCI Family.
Representation in Media Presentation – Dr. Guy Harrison
11:30 am–12:30 pm – Scripps Lab/Ed Ingle Theater
- Join us for a discussion of media representation trends and tropes as we screen the top video essays produced by students from Dr. Guy Harrison’s Media, Diversity, and Society class. The videos either won or were nominated in numerous categories during the class’s film festival-style competition in 2023.
- Lunch will be provided.
Tuesday, March 19
Sweet Treats from Home & Abroad
11:30 am – Scripps Lab
- Stop by the Scripps Lab to experience delectable desserts from around the world.
American Sign Language (ASL) Session
2:30–4 pm – Scripps Lab/Ed Ingle Theater
- You’re invited to embark on a journey into the vibrant and often misunderstood world of the Deaf and hard of hearing community. Join us for a dynamic presentation delivered by Calvin Farley, MS and designed to enlighten, engage, and leave you with a newfound understanding of the Deaf community and the rich language of American Sign Language (ASL).
- Refreshments will be provided.
Wednesday, March 20
Civil Discourse 101
3–4 pm – Scripps Lab/Ed Ingle Theater
- Come and witness the Tennessee Speech & Debate Society in an exercise of civil discourse around the topic of diversity. Resolved: Corporations should not capitalize on diversity awareness.

Mental Health Awareness

- Melanin Mental Health Alliance is a student run organization promoting mental health practices and suicide prevention resources in underserved communities. Join us for tips to maximize your health resources on campus and enhance your well being.

Indian Astrology: Aligning Your Karman – Dr. Devendra Potnis

- Dr. Devendra Potnis will share fundamental concepts and techniques from Indian astrology to understand, explain, and predict events, people, places, and relationships in one’s life. This knowledge is the result of the research and development in the following branches of Indian astrology for thousands of years: Vaidik Jyotish, Jaimini Jyotish, Krishnamurthy Paddhati, and Bhrigu Nandi Nadi.
