Get Hands-on Experience

The Media Center exists to provide real opportunities for students to see what it is like to work in their chosen field and gain actual experience in writing, editing, audio engineering, photography, broadcasting, and more.

Student Opportunities

Below are The Media Center student events and current open positions at our various media outlets.

CCI/Vol Network Production Internship

The CCI/Vol Network Production Internship program will provide CCI students with a unique professional development opportunity. A cohort of 15 students will be competitively selected to serve as a production intern pool for numerous Vol Network programs (including The Mike Keith Show, Volunteer GameDay, and other productions). Student interns will gain real-world experience, serving in various roles on the production crew.

Williams Reporting Cohort

This entry-level workshop, led by The Media Center technology coordinator, will introduce you to the basics of using a DSLR or mirrorless cameras to take professional photos for print, online, or social outlets.

Launching this year, the Williams Reporting Cohort is an extension of the coordinated coverage reporting projects The Media Center started during the 2024-2025 school year. During those earlier cycles, our students produced award-winning reporting on the 2024 election and opioid epidemic affecting the East Tennessee region. The program will give CCI students the tools and funding needed to effectively report on the broad topic of mental health in developing adults. Students selected for the program will be provided a stipend, mentorship, professional development opportunities, and additional funding and support for their reporting

WUOT opened up that door that previously hadn’t even been built for me, and I’m interested in pursuing that.
