Peyton Manning’s Gift Establishes the John Haas Student Experiential Learning Endowment
Peyton Manning (BA/CS ’97 and an honorary member of CCI’s Board of Visitors) has donated $1 million to UT to establish the John Haas Student Experiential Learning Endowment.
The gift honors John Haas, a longtime director and associate professor in the College of Communication and Information’s School of Communications Studies. As one of Manning’s professors and his UT faculty advisor, Haas played an instrumental role in Manning’s college education.

Four Notable CCI Alumni Received UTK Alumni Board of Director Awards
Four notable CCI alumni* were among the 19 UTK alumni who received 2017 UTK Alumni Board of Directors’ awards.
This year’s award recipients from CCI were: Peyton Manning (BA/CS ’97), Charlie Tombras (BS/AD ‘64), Martha “Missy” Wallen (BA/CS ‘74) and Sharrie Williams (BS/JEM ‘01). Tombras, Wallen and Williams received their awards on September 11 at the annual UT Knoxville Board of Directors Awards Dinner at the Knoxville Convention Center (KCC). Manning received his award on September 22 at a special ceremony at KCC just prior to UT’s Join the Journey Campaign Kickoff Gala.

Haas and Wirth Discuss Peyton Manning's CCI Legacy
As Peyton Manning and four other former Vols prepare to compete in Super Bowl XLVIII, WATE-TV reporter Drew Gardner asked John Haas, long-time director of UT’s School of Communication Studies and Peyton Manning’s academic advisor while he was at UT, and College of Communication and Information (CCI) Dean Mike Wirth to share their thoughts about Manning’s academic legacy at UT and the impact of his continued giving back to CCI and the University.

CCI Grad Peyton Manning Awards Scholarships
Peyton Manning (BA/CS ’97) was on campus recently to present Peyton Manning Scholarships to this year’s recipients (see Tennessee Today).
“Peyton continues to give generously of his resources and time,” said CCI Dean Mike Wirth. “We are grateful for his continuing contributions in support of the college and university.”
The College of Communication and Information has a classroom named in honor of Manning in recognition of his generosity and many accomplishments.
