R. Ryan Beaty received his PhD from the University of Oklahoma in 2025 and is an assistant professor of communication studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His primary area of research is organizational communication with a particular focus in nonprofit and religious institutions. Specifically, he is interested in the contributing factors to how nonprofit and religious entities “come alive, survive, and thrive.”
Beaty has single and co-authored research published in high-impact communication journals, including the Journal of Applied Communication Research and Management Communication Quarterly. At UT, he developed and teaches “Star Wars and Human Communication,” as well as courses in Communication Theory and Organizational Communication.
