HGTV Founder Receives Honorary Degree, Tells Grads to Listen, Learn, Love
Ken Lowe, CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive and founder of HGTV, received an honorary doctorate in humane letters during the College of Communication and Information ceremony on Thursday, May 11, 2017.
Lowe spoke to graduates about his own career and some of the life lessons he’s learned along the way.

HGTV Founder to Receive Honorary Degree at CCI Commencement
Ken Lowe, chairman of the board, president and CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive, Inc., will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Tennessee at the College of Communication and Information’s 2017 Commencement Ceremony on May 11 at 3:30 p.m. in Thompson Boling Arena. 2016 CCI Diversity and Inclusion Week to Feature Talk by Scripps Networks Interactive Executive
Scripps Networks Interactive human resources executive Alaka Williams will deliver the keynote address for the College of Communication and Information’s seventh annual Diversity and Inclusion Week, September 26-29, at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Williams’ talk begins at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, in McClung Museum Auditorium in Circle Park. The event is free and open to the public.
With the theme “Diversity and Inclusion: It’s Time,” the week will feature eight panel discussions and an open forum. Senior Headed to Brazil as Inaugural Scripps Networks Interactive Intern
Cody Woodside, a senior majoring in journalism and electronic media, will be the inaugural intern abroad for Scripps Networks Interactive’s international division.
The internship, which began this spring in the company’s Knoxville headquarters, continues on location in Brazil from June 1 to August 15. During the internship, Woodside will assist the Food Network team in a variety of functions, from marketing to social media. The program is designed to encourage students to consider a career in international communication and to involve them in an in-country launch of a new television network.

UT, Scripps Networks Interactive Partner on Executive in Residence Program
UT’s Haslam College of Business and College of Communication and Information have worked with Scripps Networks Interactive to establish an executive-in-residence program.
The program aims to encourage students to think more strategically and to grasp the big picture through interactions with top executives from Scripps Networks.
The first two executives in residence will be Mark Hale, executive vice president of global operations and chief technology officer, and Lori A. Hickok, chief financial officer.
