Advertising Research Productivity Ranked Fourth Nationally
The School of Advertising and Public Relations is tied for fourth nationally and eighth globally for advertising research productivity in a recent study published by the Journal of Business Research.
The study examined visibility in journals articles on advertising from 2008-2019, primarily focused on the three prominent U.S.-based advertising journals (Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, and Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising) as well as advertising-focused research in communications, marketing, business, and broader interdisciplinary academic journals.

Mariea Hoy Awarded Inaugural DeForrest Jackson Professorship
Mariea Hoy, a professor in the School of Advertising and Public Relations, is the inaugural recipient of the DeForrest Jackson Professorship.
The school’s first named professorship, the DeForrest Jackson Professorship was created earlier this year with a gift from Suzanne Sackleh Masters of Atlanta, who received her bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations in 1989. Masters made the gift in honor of her favorite professor, DeForrest Jackson.

Warning! UT Professor's Study about Branded Drug Website Risk Disclosure Gets FTC Attention
Do you take time to read the risk warnings on drug websites before you take the drug?
Mariea Hoy, an advertising professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has studied that question and determined that no, you probably don’t.
Last month, Hoy presented her findings in Washington, D.C. at a Federal Trade Commission workshop titled “Putting Disclosures to Test.”
Hoy and former UT faculty member Abbey Levenshus, who now teaches at Butler University in Indiana, conducted the research, and their findings were recently published in the Journal of Risk Research.
