CCI Symposium Explores Communication Convergence
“Communication and Information Research in an Age of Convergence” was the theme of the College of Communication and Information’s thirty-fifth annual Research Symposium on February 27 on the UT campus.
August E. “Augie” Grant, the J. Rion McKissick Professor of Journalism at the University of South Carolina, delivered the keynote address. He will speak on “Convergence and Disruption: The New Research Paradigms.”
The symposium was held in the Communications Building Auditorium (Room 321), with the poster session located in the foyer outside the auditorium. All events during the symposium were free and open to the public.

Quest: "Can Big Data Save the Planet?"
Late in the evening of April 20, 2010, an explosion rocked the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig pumping crude oil from beneath the Gulf of Mexico. The platform burst into flames and sank two days later, spilling thousands of barrels of oil into the water with each passing day.

UT Information Sciences Professor Receives Top SEC Award
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has awarded Carol Tenopir, professor and director of the Center for Information and Communication Studies, with one of its first Faculty Achievement Awards.
The new SEC award program was created to honor professors from the SEC with outstanding records in teaching and scholarship. A faculty member in UT’s College of Communication and Information, Tenopir is a Chancellor’s Professor in the School of Information Sciences and director of the Center for Information and Communication Studies. She also serves as director of research for the college.
