Tenopir One of Seven UT Faculty Named AAAS Fellows
Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir is one of seven UT faculty members named by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to its 2012 class of fellows.
This year, 702 members have been awarded this honor by AAAS because of their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications. The new fellows will be presented with an official certificate February 16 at the AAAS annual meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.

Late in the evening of April 20, 2010, an explosion rocked the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig pumping crude oil from beneath the Gulf of Mexico. The platform burst into flames and sank two days later, spilling thousands of barrels of oil into the water with each passing day.

UT Information Sciences Professor Receives Top SEC Award
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has awarded Carol Tenopir, professor and director of the Center for Information and Communication Studies, with one of its first Faculty Achievement Awards.
The new SEC award program was created to honor professors from the SEC with outstanding records in teaching and scholarship. A faculty member in UT’s College of Communication and Information, Tenopir is a Chancellor’s Professor in the School of Information Sciences and director of the Center for Information and Communication Studies. She also serves as director of research for the college.

UT School of Information Sciences Recruiting Students for the Emerging Field of Science Data Curation
SciData is a new master’s initiative at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, School of Information Sciences that focuses on science data management.
Scientific data is growing in scale and complexity across all scientific disciplines, which is leading to an increased need for professionals who specialize in scientific data curation research and education. The need for professionals specifically trained in the management and curation of scientific data is growing.
