Most of the volume related to Elliot\u2019s performance where from the United States by 60 percent (9,600), Unknown by 25.4 percent (4,100), Canada by 1.6 percent (515), United Kingdom by 2.5 percent (394) and South Africa by 0.9 percent (142).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-876 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/utccismcc.utk.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2019\/08\/ME1.png\" alt=\"\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-877 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/utccismcc.utk.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2019\/08\/ME2.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Missy Elliot\u2019s VMA performance received high volumes of attention worldwide on Twitter. Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/mtv-vmas-2019-12-best-worst-wtf-moments-876950\/missy-elliott-vanguard-876961\/\">Rolling Stone<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/08\/27\/arts\/music\/vma-performances-winners.html\">The New York Times<\/a> stated her performance was one of the best of the night. Many of her videos feature young up-and-coming dancers for exposure.<\/p>\n<p>During the memorable performance, she brought out one of her former dancers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1351987\/\">Alyson Stoner<\/a>. Some people may remember her from the \u201cStep Up\u201d or Disney Channel\u2019s \u201cCamp Rock\u201d films. Stoner originally rose to fame after dancing in Missy Elliot\u2019s \u201cWork It,\u201d \u201cGossip Folks\u201d and \u201cI\u2019m Really Hot\u201d videos. While taking the stage, Elliot was given a standing ovation by a gleeful team of backup dancers and an ecstatic audience. The famous rapper humbly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tXzGnMErzqc\">thanked<\/a> everyone who supported and inspired her throughout the years. A few memorable mentions were Janet Jackson, Hype Williams, Busta Rhymes, Madonna, Aaliyah, the dance community, God and her mother.<\/p>\n<p>There were many other memorable performances from artists such as Taylor Swift (performed \u201cYou Need to Calm Down\u201d and \u201cLover\u201d), Normani (performed \u201cMotivation), Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello (performed \u201cSe\u00f1orita\u201d), Lizzo (performed \u201cTruth Hurts\u201d and \u201cGood as Hell\u201d) and Miley Cyrus (performed \u201cSlide Away\u201d) as well. However, one of the most anticipated and praised performance was by the music icon.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nVanguard History<\/strong><br \/>\nThe award was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popsugar.com\/entertainment\/Who-Has-Won-MTV-Video-Vanguard-Award-45147365\">presented<\/a> during the inaugural 1984 VMAs with David Bowie and The Beatles as dual winners. It was renamed in 1991 to the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award to honor Jackson\u2019s achievements. However, in recent months the award\u2019s name has been surrounded by controversy due to allegations of molestation against Jackson. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/pop-culture\/music\/mtv-vmas-2019-all-best-moments-pop-music-s-big-n1046701\">NBC News<\/a>, MTV removed Michael Jackson\u2019s name from the award during the show, but the award has not been officially renamed yet. The news affiliate stated MTV has not responded for a quote.<\/p>\n<p>The Vanguard award is considered MTV\u2019s highest honor an artist can received for their influence, legacy and contributions to the music industry. Artists like Beyonc\u00e9, Justin Timberlake, Bowie, and Jennifer Lopez have won the award in the past.<\/p>\n<p>While wearing her sparkling \u201cIconic\u201d necklace, Missy Elliot reminded the world of why she deserves this recognition. Sge has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/hip-hop\/7431180\/missy-elliott-interview\">collaborated, produced and written songs<\/a> for Whitney Houston, Beyonc\u00e9, Mary J. Blige, Ciara, TLC, Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, Remy Ma, and Raven Symone\u2013 to name a few.
