Wondering what all the Wikileaks business is that is trending right now? Well, let\u2019s talk about it.
\nFirst, what is Wikileaks? Well, most simply put, it is an online space where private and top-secret information is leaked from anonymous sources. This information could be confidential information from governmental bodies or news outlets for example. So now that we know what it is, what is this new story about?
\nWell, Julian Assange is the co-founder for Wikileaks which surfaced in 2006. Julian was arrested today for conspiring \u201cin 2010 with former US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to access classified information on Department of Defense computers.\u201d So, to clarify, Assange is believed to have stolen US secrets. This means that he somehow hacked into highly secured and sophisticated systems to obtain confidential information to then share on Wikileaks. Due to the way he entered into the Department of Defense computers, it did not send many red flags out as it appeared to be a legitimate entry. This leaves some questioning; did he actually break into the system or \u2026 hmmm? We didn\u2019t say it- others did! We are just sharing the story.
\nHe downloaded four major databases from US agencies making it “one of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the United States.”
\nYou may have heard President Trump among many others talk about Wikileaks. Wikileaks has stolen much information over the years. In 2010, Wikileaks was responsible for capturing information from the Democratic National Convention (DNC). From this information, Assange boasted about having incriminating information about the then-presidential nominee, Hilary Clinton. Also, the list goes on!
