Registered student organizations operate independently of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with some receiving guidance and support from university departments. The university encourages student organizations to promote civil and social awareness, but it does not endorse their activities or viewpoints. To view a full list of registered organizations, visit VOLink<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Membership, leadership, and all events and programming associated with student organizations are open to all students. All student organizations receive equal consideration by the college and the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\n
\n

APSE is a sports journalism organization focused on providing training and networking opportunities for professional and student sports journalists. Joining an APSE chapter allows students to network with industry professionals and submit work to the national APSE awards contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kappa Tau Alpha is a college honor society that recognizes academic excellence and promotes scholarship in journalism and mass communication. Membership must be earned by excellence in academic work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Association of Black Journalists<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1975, the National Association of Black Journalists is the largest national organization for journalists of color established to foster community and advocate on behalf of Black journalists and media professionals. 

The University of Tennessee\u2019s provisional student chapter of NABJ was established by Rilwan Balogun and Lauriel Cleveland in fall 2014. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This student chapter meets monthly during the school year with guest speakers to address topics about the current state of journalism aimed at fostering professional development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
