She examines how news and entertainment media construct messages about health and medicine, and how audiences interpret those messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Andsager\u2019s research has been published in&nbsp;<em>Health Communication<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Communication Research<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Journalism &amp; Mass Communication Quarterly<\/em>, the&nbsp;<em>Journal of Communication<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Women &amp; Health<\/em>, the&nbsp;<em>American Journal of Men\u2019s Health<\/em>, and other journals. She is co-author of two books:&nbsp;<em>Self versus others: Media, messages, and the third-person effect<\/em>&nbsp;(with H. Allen White; Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, 2007) and&nbsp;<em>Free expression in five democratic public<\/em>&nbsp;(with Robert O. Wyatt &amp; Ernest Martin; Hampton Press, 2004). She served as associate editor of&nbsp;<em>Journalism &amp; Mass Communication Quarterly&nbsp;<\/em>for 10 years<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Andsager received her PhD from the University of Tennessee and BS and MS from Kansas State University. She is a former head of AEJMC\u2019s Communication Theory &amp; Methodology Division and the Commission on the Status of Women, as well as former president of the Midwest Association for Public Opinion Research.
