The School of Communication Studies offers several scholarships for students who display exceptional skill and work ethic. Each scholarship is unique in its background and purpose. View scholarship details below; students will be considered for scholarships when they apply for financial aid through the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charles J. McClung Prize Fund<\/div><\/h2>
\n

This prize is awarded to participants in the Charles J. McClung Speech Contest, the largest public speaking contest in the Southeast. The contest takes place semi-annually, in the spring and fall, featuring unique themes every year. This scholarship also applies to Smokey Talks competition.
Deadline: TBA<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • 1st place \u2013 $300<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 2nd place \u2013 $150<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 3rd place \u2013 $75<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 4th place \u2013 $50<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 5th place \u2013 $50<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Criteria<\/strong>: Communication studies major or enrolled in Communication Studies 210 course. All instructors of Public Speaking will announce the contest and prepare students for entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Smokey Talks Contest:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Criteria:<\/strong> Communication Studies major or enrolled in 240 Business & Professional. All instructors of Business and Professional will announce the contest and prepare students for entry.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Michael Kenneth Hamrick Scholarship<\/strong><\/div><\/h2>
    \n

    The Michael Kenneth Hamrick Scholarship was created by the parents of alumni Michael Hamrick to honor his memory. Michael passed away suddenly in 2008.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Nathan Boals Memorial Scholarship<\/strong><\/div><\/h2>

    The Nathan Boals Memorial Scholarship was created in 2007 by the parents of former student Nathan Boals to honor his memory.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Judy Flanagan Scholarship<\/div><\/h2>
    \n

    Judy Flanagan was director of special events at UT Knoxville for over 15 years. She was passionate about special events and spent her life serving others.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Faye Julian Scholarship<\/strong><\/div><\/h2>
    \n

    Faye Julian was a former School of Communication Studies professor and dean of the College of Communication and Information.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Honeycutt Scholarship<\/strong><\/div><\/h2>
    \n

    Created by School of Communication Studies alumna Alexanderia Gambrell (\u201803) and her husband, Jordan Gambrell.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Maria Felt-William Haas Scholarship<\/strong><\/div><\/h2>
    \n

    Created by School of Communication Studies Professor and former school Director John Haas and his wife Dr. Cindy Haas, in memory of his parents, Maria and William.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
