UT Social Media Week

The ninth annual UT Social Media Week will be held February 18-20 in the Communications Building. All sessions are free and open to the public.

Full speaker details are available on the UT Social Media Week website, and each session will be streamed to the CCI YouTube channel.

DAY 1 – Tuesday, February 18

Session 1: “But I Saw It on Facebook!”: Social Media as Channels of Misinformation and Disinformation

Journalism & Electronic Media

Howard Distinguished Endowed Professor of Media Management and Law and Beaman Professor of Journalism and Electronic Media Stuart N. Brotman is serving a nine-month residency in Washington, D.C., as a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. His recent articles include: “How Public Libraries Can Help Close America’s Digital Privacy Divide” for Inside Sources and “Why Hacking Must Be Addressed in Digital Privacy Policymaking” for CSO Online. He was also featured in the Wilson Center NOW video episode, “Digital Privacy at a Crossroads.”

Professor Emeritus Peter Gross has written two recent articles for Transitions Online: A Failure for Fake News and A Look Back at Romania’s Hopeful Presidential Election.

Assistant Professor Joy Jenkins and Rasmus Kleis Nielsen’s (University of Oxford) article,  “Preservation and Evolution: Local Newspapers as Ambidextrous Organizations,” was published in Journalism. Jenkins was also recently featured on the “Beyond the Ivory Tower: Conversations on Journalism” podcast, a production of the Journalism Studies Center.
