Associate Dean and Associate Professor Michael Palenchar presented, “”Playing with theory outside the academy: Consulting and translating communication research for organizations,” at a preconference of the National Communication Association in Salt Lake City, UT, November 7, 2018.  


Professor Bharat Mehra edited a special issue, “From Diversity Theory to Diversity in Action,” of the International Journal of Information, Diversity, & Inclusion with articles from four of his students in INSC 590 Diversity Leadership in Information Organizations taught during spring 2018. Mehra’s guest editorial, “Emerging voices in diversity and inclusion leadership: Applications of the strategic diversity manifesto,” appeared in the special issue available at 

Clinical Associate Professor Cindy Welch presented an invited workshop on ethics, intellectual freedom and self-censorship to the Public Library Management Institute, a certificate-type program offered by the State Library of Tennessee on November 6. Twenty-five small- to medium-sized public library managers and supervisors attended the workshop at Montgomery Bell State Park, in Burns, Tennessee.

Congratulations to Judy (Pui-yi) Li for successfully defending her dissertation. Thanks to her dissertation committee chair Chancellor’s Professor Suzie Allard, and her other committee members: Associate Professor Devendra Potnis, Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir and Professor Anne Smith (HCB). The title of Dr. Li’s dissertation is “Knowledge sharing matters:  A mixed methods study on knowledge practices among university presses.”


The sixth annual WUTK Beer Dinner Fundraiser will be at the Sunspot restaurant November 13 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The fundraising event includes a five-course dinner a craft beer pairing and giveaways. Sunspot is located at 2200 Cumberland Avenue.
