A total of 246 students took advantage of the opportunity to interview with 43 employers at CCI’s annual Job and Internship Fair in Thompson Boling Arena on October 17.
Employers ranged from government agencies to retail/sales businesses, to broadcast and media companies. Many offered internships to students as well as after-graduation employment opportunities. Several of the organizations were represented by CCI alumni.
CCI Director of Internationalization and Outreach Sam Swan partnered with the UT Center for Career Development’s Leslie Poynter to organize and market the event. “We have a great partner in the Center for Career Development team,” said Swan. “They are committed to helping us attract the right employers to attend. They also back us in preparing the students with everything from what to wear and to how to prepare their resumes. Our students walk away from the experience with a much clearer picture of what kind of employment they want to pursue after graduation, and they also get a dose of reality about the advantages of being flexible.”
As in the past, many students feel more confident as they approach more formal interviews after attending the job fair. They also get first-hand feedback from employers regarding their resumes and career preparation. For some students, especially those a year or two away from graduation, this gives them time to “beef-up” their resumes while still in school.
If CCI alumni and their employers would like to be included in future job and internship fairs, please contact Sam Swan at 865-974-5123 or email@example.com.
