Dean Faye Julian
CCI Former Dean Faye Julian Dies at Eighty-One
Communication Studies Emerita Professor and former Dean of the College of Communication and Information Dr. Faye D. Julian passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018. She is remembered as an exceptional educator and administrator.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Faye D. Julian Undergraduate Scholarship Endowment in the School of Communication Studies and/or the Faye D. Julian Graduate Fellowship Endowment in the College of Communication & Information 1345 Circle Park Drive, Knoxville TN 37996 or the Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan.

Allard Named Chancellor’s Professor
Suzie Allard (SIS), CCI associate dean for research and director of the Center for Information & Communication Studies, has been named a Chancellor’s Professor by UT Interim Chancellor Wayne Davis. “Appointment as a Chancellor’s Professor constitutes the highest honor that can be accorded a UT Knoxville faculty member. This designation recognizes extraordinary, nationally or internationally recognized, scholarly attainment in an individual discipline or field as well as a record of excellence in teaching and service to the university.” Find out more.
Maureen Taylor
Taylor Elected ICA Fellow
Maureen Taylor, UT School of Advertising and Public Relations director and Beaman Professor, was named an International Communication Association (ICA) Fellow at the 2018 ICA annual conference in Prague, Czech Republic, May 24 – 28. Being named an ICA Fellow is a lifetime achievement award that recognizes the individual’s distinguished scholarly contributions and service to the profession. Taylor is the first ICA public relations division member elected to this elite group and the first ICA Fellow from UT. Find out more.

Kelly Appointed to iSchool Board of Directors
School of Information Sciences Director and Professor Diane Kelly has been elected to the inaugural iSchool Board of Directors. The iSchool organization is dedicated to advancing the information field in the 21st century and serves a large international membership of information science schools, colleges, and departments. CCI Faculty Retirements: Ed Caudill and Ron Taylor
Two CCI faculty members will retire on July 31 with a combined 67 years of service to the college and university: Journalism and Electronic Media Professor Ed Caudill and Advertising and Public Relations Professor Ron Taylor.Find out more.

Land Grant Films Receives New Grants/Has Documentary Selected for Film Festival
New grants: Land Grant Films received a $10,000 award from the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation and a $7,920 grant from Humanities Tennessee to support its production of 100 Million Stories, a documentary about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Immigration Film Festival: 7 Days in America, a documentary produced by UT’s Land Grant Films, has been selected for screening at the Immigration Film Festival in Washington, DC. Find out more.

Interim Chancellor Wayne Davis approved the promotions of Beth Foster (ADPR) and Bharat Mehra (SIS) to full professor effective August 1, 2018.
Amanda Willis
Amanda Wills (BS/JEM ’08) Featured in Torchbearer
Journalism and technology have always been a natural combination for Amanda Wills (’08). At the age of eight, she taught herself to use her family’s first computer by producing a neighborhood newspaper. Subscriptions were 25 cents a month. “It was a success for a few months,” she remembers. “But my mom shut down the paper when I accidentally exposed an affair between two neighbors.” Find out more.
