2018 CCI Commencement Highlights
Interim Provost John Zomchick conferred degrees on 338 CCI spring and summer graduates (279 bachelor’s, 53 master’s and 6 doctoral) at the CCI Commencement held May 12, 2018 in Thompson Boling Arena. Larry Patrick (MS/C&I ’73 and CCI Board of Visitors member) delivered the commencement speech challenging the graduates to keep learning. “The knowledge of how to prepare content, to be objective, to write and edit well and to both speak and listen well are the keys to tomorrow for you,” said Patrick. He went on to urge the graduates to always conduct themselves with integrity and to help pave the way for future generations through service. Find out more. |

In Memoriam: JEM Professor Emeritus Frank Thornburg
JEM Professor Emeritus Frank Thornburg passed away April 30, 2018 at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war, he received a BS degree in journalism from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1948, one of a handful of students in the first class to graduate from the university’s new School of Journalism. After earning a Master’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida, Thornburg returned to UT and served as a faculty member for thirty years. Find out more. |

Faculty Promotions
University of Tennessee Interim Chancellor Wayne Davis has approved Beth Avery Foster (ADPR) and Bharat Mehra (IS) for promotion to full professor. Foster joined the faculty in 2006 and Mehra joined the faculty in 2005. The promotions are effective August 1, 2018. |
