Immigration Film Festival

7 Days in America, a documentary produced by UT’s Land Grant Films, has been selected for screening at the Immigration Film Festival in Washington, DC.
The half-hour documentary follows Katie Willocks, a case worker from Bridge Refugee Services, as she helps a family of Burundian refugees resettle in Knoxville. The film was directed by School of Journalism and Electronic Media Associate Professor Nick Geidner with a crew of UT students.
“I’m so proud of my students’ work on this project,” said Geidner. “With the language barriers and other complexities, this film was a lot more work than some of our other projects, but our students rose to the task and produced a great film. We are excited to screen 7 Days in Washington, DC, and proud to be part of the Immigration Film Festival.”
The film was one of 17 selected out of more than 300 submissions. The festival runs October 26–28.
7 Days in America has already aired on East Tennessee PBS and won an award of excellence in the Broadcast Education Association’s Media Arts Festival faculty competition.
Geidner launched Land Grant Films in the School of Journalism and Electronic Media several years ago as a way to give students hands-on experience in documentary storytelling while providing no-cost video services for local nonprofit organizations.
