Associate Professor Courtney Childers received a 2018 Course Improvement with Technology Enhancement (CITE) Grant of $5,000 from UT’s Office of Instructional Technology (OIT). Her project, “A Study in Student Engagement and Experiential Learning by Doing,” will incorporate open educational resource (OER) experiences into her Social Media course, ADV 461, allowing her to bring four class modules online. The grant includes OIT assistance with online module development and summer support to work on a research project measuring student engagement and experiential learning. She plans to pilot the online modules in Fall 2018 and collect baseline data.
The Office of Research and Engagement and the 2018 Faculty Senate Research Council Summer Graduate Research Assistantship Committee gave two CCI faculty members $3,600 awards to provide CCI doctoral students with summer stipends to work on research projects. CCI doctoral student Ying Xiong will assist ADPR Assistant Professor Moonhee Cho and CCI doctoral student Charli Kerns will assist JEM Associate Professor Erin Whiteside.
JEM Associate Professor Nick Geidner along with JEM Media Specialist Clinton Elmore, and JEM students Abby Bower (’18) & Hannah Marley (’17) received a BEA Award of Excellence in the Faculty Documentary Competition for their film, “7 Days in America.”
The Public Speaking Center was recently highlighted on campus for the speech anxiety and other public speaking assistance the Center’s staff offers students. CCI Center for Information and Communication Studies Research Associate Natalie Rice was interviewed by WBIR-TV about Russian propaganda on social media targeting Americans.
