Howard Distinguished Endowed Professor of Media Management and Law and Beaman Professor of Communication and Information Stuart N. Brotman has been appointed to the North American Steering Committee for the 2018 Global Forum in Copenhagen.

Professor Mark Harmon was honored with a Third Place Certificate in the Golden Press Card competition for journalism in East Tennessee.  This week the students in his First Year Studies (How to Argue) class were one of three finalists in the Baker Center Public Policy Challenge.  The students put together an argument for expanded municipal broadband service in our state.  On Sunday, April 29, Harmon will be part of a post-performance issues panel after the 2 p.m. matinee of Urinetown, The Musical at Clarence Brown Theatre.

Associate Professor Erin Whiteside was a featured panelist at the “Women, sport and media: Coverage, careers and consequences” conference co-hosted by espnW and the University of Maryland Merrill College of Journalism and Povich Center for Sports Journalism. Whiteside appeared on the conference’s opening panel with USA Today columnist Christine Brennan, Washington Post NFL writer Liz Clarke, Golf Channel executive producer, Molly Solomon, and espnW/ESPN the Magazine editor in chief Alison Overholt. She also presented a paper at the conference,  “Crusading for coverage: Challenges and opportunities for increased visibility of girls and women in sports media.” 

Assistant professor Michael Martinez presented “Witness to history: The photographers who documented the Presidents” at the American College of Family Trial Lawyers conference in Santa Barbara, California on April 27.
