The Communication Studies Spring 2018 Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society Induction was held on April 13. Twenty-seven undergraduates were inducted into the Alpha Gamma Chapter. The event was hosted by Chapter President Dalton Tipton and Faculty Adviser Assistant Professor Emily Paskewitz.


Howard Distinguished Endowed Professor of Media Management and Law and Beaman Professor of Communication and Information Stuart N. Brotman presented, “Over-the top services regulation,” at the Media Industries: Current Debates and Future Directions international conference at King’s College London, April 18 – 20, 2018.

Professor Peter Gross is serving as a grant reviewer (media proposals) for the National Science Center, Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education during Spring 2018.

Professor Rob Heller has had photographs accepted for exhibition at the Black Box Gallery in Portland, Oregon and at the PH21 Gallery in Budapest. His portraits of Tennessee Holocaust survivors and liberators are on display at the Nashville downtown Main Library until May 27 as part of the “Violins of Hope” exhibit.

Heller and his advanced photojournalism students recently spent a weekend in LaFollette and produced the 25th anniversary edition of the “Eyes on LaFollette” photo documentary project.

Associate Professor Erin Whiteside gave a talk, “Sports figures, social commentary, and the role of sports journalism during the 2016 Presidential Election,” at the 2018 Southern States Communication Association annual meeting in Nashville April 4-7. Her chapter by the same name appears in the recently released edited volume, “The 2016 American presidential campaign and the news: Implications for democracy and the republic.”
