Associate Professor Beth Foster’s article (with co-author Sejin Park (PhD/C&I ’16), “HPV vaccination campaign fear visuals: An eye-tracking study exploring effects of visual attention and type on message informative value, recall, and behavioral intentions,” was accepted for publication in the special issue of Public Relations Review on Visual Communication.
Director and Professor Maureen Taylor traveled to Hong Kong to participate in the 2018 Humanities, Social Sciences and Business Studies Selection Panel, which awards up to 100 Fellowships for students to complete doctorates at one of Hong Kong’s universities.
N. Uysal (DePaul U.), A. Yang (USC) and Taylor (2018) had their paper, “Shareholder communication and issue salience: Corporate responses to ‘social’ shareholder activism,” published in the Journal of Applied Communication Research, DOI: 10.1080/00909882.2018.1437643.
Professor Candace White has been selected as a Baker Center Faculty Fellow with the Global Security Program.

Professor Julie Andsager received an Academic Fellowship from the Association of Health Care Journalists to attend and report on its annual conference, April 11-15 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Howard Distinguished Endowed Professor of Media Management and Law and Beaman Professor of Communication and Information Stuart N. Brotman has been selected for inclusion in the Academic Keys Who’s Who in Social Sciences Higher Education, which is the most comprehensive and authoritative online source of information available on leading and influential experts and scientists in the social sciences.
Professor Peter Gross’s article, “The Romanian media has to constantly defend its freedom in the face of never-ending threats of encroachment from the ruling class,” was published in Transitions Online, http://www.tol.org/client/article/27561-romania-press-media-freedom-corruption-dna.html
Professor Mark Harmon discussed, The American Spirit: Who We Are and What We Stand For by David McCullough, on February 28 at the East Tennessee History Center as a part of “Books Sandwiched In.” A Knox County Libraries’ program.
WUTK 90.3 FM Volunteer Radio, JEM’s college radio station, will hold a fundraiser Friday, March 2 at The Basement Community Arts Studio in Knoxville’s Old City. The event, ‘Roll A Picasso,’ includes creating a unique picasso-inspired watercolor painting to take home and food from The Landing House (Cambodian, Chinese, and French inspired food). A $20 entry donation covers dinner and all art supplies (BYOB). There will also be a raffle for concert tickets and gift cards to local restaurants and shops. Tickets can be purchased in advance, or at the door the night of the event.
