Associate Professor Courtney Childers and Brandon Boatwright (PhD student) gave an invited presentation to the UT Chancellors Associates at their Tuesday morning breakfast on January 9. Childers and Boatwright shared about the power of social listening and how CCI integrates Salesforce Social Studio technology into classes and research. The session ended with a tour of the Adam Brown Social Media Command Center.


Assistant Professor Jenny Crowley received a $5,000 Professional and Scholarly Development Award (PSDA) from the UT Office of Research and Engagement for her project, “Coping with Opioid Substance Abuse: The Challenges of Identity and Supportive Communication for Opioid Afflicted Couples.” PSDA awards provide seed funding to support applications for external research funding, collaborations, book contracts, juried competitions, fellowships, and journal papers in direct alignment with Vol Vision 2020 goals.


Professor Peiling Wang and doctoral student Iman Tahamtan had their paper, “The state‐of‐the‐art of open peer review: Early adopters,” published in Proceedings of the Association for Information,

Tahamtan and co-author L. Bornmann (Max Planck Society, Munich, Germany) had their article, “Core elements in the process of citing publications: Conceptual overview of the literature,” published in Journal of Informetrics, 12(1), 203–16.


Professor Sam Swan traveled to Bulgaria in December to continue his training workshops for Bulgarian TV journalists and managers.  The focus of the workshops is on free press and free market economy issues.
