Associate Professor and CCI Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Michael Palenchar made an invited presentation, “Increasing challenges for corporate risk and issues management communicators,” to the 2017 Corporate Communication Summit at Marquette University on October 26 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

INFORMATION SCIENCES

Professor and CCI Associate Dean for Research Suzie Allard authored the annual Library Journal article (for the third time), which provides a “snapshot assessment” of the  job market for 2016 graduates in the field of library and information science. http://lj.libraryjournal.com/2017/10/placements-and-salaries/2017-survey/librarians-everywhere/

Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir made four invited speeches to two Norwegian organizations last week:

  • ‘Scholarly publications in the worklife of researchers,” NOLUG, the Norwegian Online User Group, Oslo, Norway
  • ‘Data sharing and re-use: Barriers and incentives,” NOLUG, the Norwegian Online User Group, Oslo, Norway  
  • “Measuring the value of library services and collections,” Norwegian Association of Special Libraries, Trondheim, Norway
  • “Research data services and the role of libraries,” Norwegian Association of Special Libraries, Trondheim, Norway

Associate Professor Wade Bishop presented “Geoinformatics, does the data lifecycle,” at the Geological Society of America’s annual meeting, October 22-25 in Seattle, Washington. https://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2017AM/webprogram/Paper306663.html

Associate Professor Devendra Potnis had his proposal, “Digital literacy and good governance,” accepted by the US Department of State Diplomacy Lab.

Potnis’ article, “Students’ intention to adopt Internet-based personal safety wearable devices: Extending UTAUT with trusting belief,” was published in First Monday. The article was co-authored with D. Demissie (Sage Colleges) and K. Deosthali (U. of Mary Washington).

JOURNALISM AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA

Howard Distinguished Endowed Professor of Media Management and Law and Beaman Professor of Communication and Information Stuart N. Professor Peter Gross’ article, “A mystery in Albania. Russia? Again? Buying, controlling, manipulating, using media in other countries,” was published in Transitions Online, Oct. 17, 2017. Also, as a Fulbright Senior Specialist, he gave: six lectures in classes at the University of Timisoara West (Romania),  the keynote address at the 25th anniversary of the journalism program that he helped initiate in 1992,  and a public presentation, “Weds.: Future or Past? Democracy, liberalism, and media.”

Professor Sam Swan had his proposal, “Social media wars: The battle for influence in Bulgaria,” accepted by the US Department of State Diplomacy Lab.

Mirjana Pantic (PhD/C&I ’17) (Pace U.) and Associate Professor Erin Whiteside published, “Politics, conflict generate more live-blog comments,” in Newspaper Research Journal, 38(3), 354-365.
