Professor Dania Bilal has been selected this year’s recipient of the ASIST SIGUSE Outstanding Contribution to Information Behaviour Award. Bilal was recognized for her work on children’s cognitive and affective information behavior in using and interacting with information retrieval systems. The award will be presented October 28, 2017 at the SIGUSE Symposium held in conjunction with the ASIS&T Annual Meeting in Alexandria, Virginia.

Associate Professor Wade Bishop presented, “Users of the U.S. Geological Survey Science Data Catalog,” at the Research Data Alliance 10th Plenary Meeting in Montréal, Canada, September 19 – 21, 2017.


Howard Distinguished Endowed Professor of Media Management and Law and Beaman Professor of Communication and Information Stuart N. Brotman has been selected as an interviewee for the new Broadcast Education Association Thought Leadership Series on Law & Policy. The video series began in 2016. The short video interviews (5-12 minutes) explore each professional’s background, career path, day to day responsibilities and best practices for career success, as well as highlight industry trends and key issues. Completed, the videos are posted on BEA’s website ( ).

Brotman will present a talk on international communications law and policy developments at the Global Forum annual conference, October 2-3, 2017, in Winnipeg, Canada

Professor Peter Gross had his article, “Media mis/trust and other paradoxes,” published in Transitions Online, September 23, 2017. 

WUTK will celebrate National College Radio Day on Friday, October 6 by soliciting monetary donations from listeners throughout the day. The WUTK Gift Fund helps keep the award-winning student broadcast and media lab operating.  There will be premium items up for auction including concert and athletic event tickets, information about the annual WUTK Beer Dinner Fund Raiser at Sunspot on Nov. 6, special in-station interviews and performances, and more.  Listeners are encouraged to make a safe, tax deductible donation at
