Professor Roxanne Hovland is retiring from the School of Advertising and Public Relations and the University of Tennessee effective August 31, 2017. Upon her retirement after 30 years of service to ADPR, CCI and UT, she will become a Professor Emeritus in the School of Advertising and Public Relations.
During her time at UT, Hovland received the CCI Distinguished Service Award (1997-98) and was a finalist for the CCI Outstanding Teaching Award (2004). She served as College of Communications associate dean for undergraduate studies from 1995 – 98. She currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Current Issues in Research in Advertising and has been a reviewer for a number of academic journals and conferences.
Hovland has co-authored three books, several book chapters and many refereed journal articles and conference presentations. She has also served as president of the UT chapter of Phi Kappa Phi (2008-09) and as a member of numerous university and college committees and several dissertation and theses committees.
Professor Hovland began her academic career with the University of Texas before coming to UT in 1987 as an assistant professor.
She holds a BS in advertising from the University of Florida, and a Master’s in advertising and PhD in communications from the University of Illinois.
