HGTV Founder Receives Honorary Degree, Tells Grads to Listen, Learn, Love
Ken Lowe, CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive and founder of HGTV, received an honorary doctorate in humane letters during the College of Communication and Information ceremony on Thursday, May 11, 2017. Palenchar Named CCI Associate Dean Advertising & Public Relations (ADPR) Associate Professor Michael J. Palenchar has been appointed as CCI’s new Associate Dean for Academic Programs effective July 1, 2017. Palenchar is an internationally known scholar whose research and teaching interests include risk and crisis communication, issues management, community awareness of emergency response protocols and manufacturing risks, community right-to-know issues, front groups, and social media during risk situations. TAB Brings Radio Talent Institute to JEM The inaugural Tennessee Association of Broadcasters (TAB) Radio Talent Institute was held in CCI’s Scripps Convergence Lab, May 15 –24, 2017. Twenty-five student attendees from UT, Middle Tennessee State University, Austin Peay University and the University of Mississippi gained invaluable information, skills and networking contacts as part of a unique 10-day experience.Find out more.

CCI Faculty Receive Summer Research Funding Seventeen CCI faculty members received funding support to work on a variety of summer research projects. “Having the block of time in the summer to focus on research projects is critically important to our faculty,” said CCI Associate Dean for Research Suzie Allard. “This research work will lead to publications and grant proposals well beyond the summer projects.” Find out more.
