Three CCI student athletes heard their names called over the three days of the 2017 NFL Draft held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. All were communication studies (CS) majors in the College of Communication and Information.
Derek Barnett (CS senior – defensive end) was the first to hear his name called when he was selected in the first round by the Philadelphia Eagles. Alvin Kamara (CS senior – running back) was selected in the third round by the New Orleans Saints. Cameron Sutton (BA/CS ’16 – defensive back) was selected in the third round by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
School of Communication Studies Director John Haas said of the three drafted by the NFL, “I continue to be in awe of these student athletes. Theirs is not an easy path, which is sometimes punctuated by difficult and unfair criticism. I admire their ability to focus simultaneously on their athletic and academic careers.”
Barnett is from Nashville, Sutton is from Jonesboro, Georgia and Kamara is from Norcross, Georgia.
