CCI Students among AP Award Winners

AP logoThe 2016 Tennessee Associated Press professional and college competition winners were announced on April 8, 2017 in Nashville. UT students receiving awards included the follow CCI students:

  • Michael Lipps (BA/CS ’16), received second place for his newspaper feature story, “Knoxville Resident Hitches Coffee Shop to His Cycle.”
  • Tom Cruise, a JEM senior, placed second in the specialized/topic reporting category for, “Space Technology Reporting.”
  • In the Online Ongoing Coverage section, the Daily Beacon Staff was recognized for its coverage of “Pride Center Vandalism.” JEM juniors Christopher Salvemini and Alex Holcomb were among the students contributing to this series of stories.

JEM Lecturer Rachel Wedding McClelland, director of UT student media, led the student teams that produced the award-winning stories.
