Congratulations to Lindsey Bier for successfully completing and defending her dissertation, “Investigating country identity and citizen diplomacy: The case of cultural mediators in Vietnam.” Thanks to her dissertation committee chair Professor Candace White and her other committee members: Professor Maureen Taylor, Associate Professor Amber Roessner, and Associate Professor Liem Tran (CAS).
Congratulations to Laura Lemon for successfully completing and defending her dissertation, “It’s not rocket science: Employees’ lived experiences and the essence of employee engagement.” Thanks to her dissertation committee chair Associate Professor Michael Palenchar and her other committee members: Professor Sally McMillan, Professor Joan Rentsch, and Professor Daniel Flint (HCB).
COMMUNICATION STUDIES
Master’s student Elizabeth Hurst and Associate Professor Courtney Wright co-authored the top paper in the Communication Theory Division at Southern States Communication Association conference in Greenville, SC, “Ethnographic research proposal: Exploring Syrian refugee identity negotiation.”
INFORMATION SCIENCES
Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir recently gave two invited keynote talks:
- “Reading for research: Scholarly publications in the worklife of researchers,” the Association of Health Information Professionals, Helsinki, Finland, April 7, 2017.
- “Research data services in European libraries: Current offerings and plans for the future,” Tallinn, Estonia, April 20, 2017.
Doctoral student Iman Tahamtan, along with co-authors S. Pajouhanfar, S. Sedghi, M. Azad, & M. Roudbari (all from Iran U. of Medical Sciences) had their article, “Factors affecting smartphone adoption for accessing information in medical settings,” published in Health Information and Libraries Journal.
JOURNALISM AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA
Howard Distinguished Endowed Professor of Media Management and Law and Beaman Professor of Communication and Information Stuart N. Brotman had his paper, “Engaged teaching and research in political communication during the 2016 presidential election: a case study of the political social media research group at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville,” published in the Journal of Media Education.
