Associate Professor Michael Palenchar and Tatjana Hocke’s (PhD/C&I ‘11) article, “Risk bearers’ narratives following a crisis: The complexities of community identity,” published in PR Journal.


Amy Forrester (MS/IS ‘16) and Director and Associate Professor John Haas’s paper, “Web metrics to inform organizational communication audits,” was presented at the Southern States Communication Association 87th Annual Convention (Applied Communication Division), April 5-9, 2017 in Greenville, SC.


Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir presented, “Why academics read and how libraries contribute,” at the Portuguese Academic Librarians meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, March 30, 2017. On March 31, Tenopir presented, “Research data services in European universities: Current offerings and plans for the future,” at a meeting of Portuguese University IT departments, libraries and research office.

Clinical Associate Professor Cindy Welch has been selected to be a member of the inaugural cohort of the UT Experience Learning Faculty Fellows Program.  Fellows are provided with a grant to help them redesign a course and also participate in the Experience Learning Summer Institute. 

Welch made presentations at two sessions at this week’s Tennessee Library Association annual conference held in Knoxville April 5 – 7, 2017: (1) “Youth services for all: The why’s and how’s of serving all children” and (2) “STE(A)MBoB: Gearing up with the Best of the Best.”


Professor Peter Gross’s article, “Fake news in the service of post-truth Belarus,” was published, April 6, 2017 in Transitions Online,

Assistant Professor Nick Geidner has also been selected to the inaugural cohort of the UT Experience Learning Faculty Fellows Program. As part of being a Faculty Fellow, he will receive a grant to redesign JEM 515 and participate in the Experience Learning Summer Institute. In addition, he was awarded an Experience Learning Faculty Support Grant to help fund the student-produced Vietnam War documentary that will air on ETPBS in the fall. 

Doctoral student Jamie Greig is the recipient of a GTA@OIT grant for “Multimedia in the digital age: Enhancing a journalism course for web-based delivery,” a component that will be used in a JEM class Multimedia Storytelling.
