2017 Social Media Week Ignites Students

The sixth annual UT Social Media Week (UTSMW), held February 27 – March 2, had far-reaching impact as evidenced by in person and social media attendance at the week’s keynote and sessions (see the week’s statistics in the linked story). Clay Travis, national radio host and FOX Sports analyst, delivered the UTSMW keynote on March 2 to wrap up the week. In his talk, “How to Go from Zero Readers to Over a Million a Day: My Online Writing Life,” Travis explained how he used social media to build his personal brand. Find out more

Middlebrook Inspires 2017 Experience Diversity Gathering
The ninth annual CCI Experience Diversity Banquet on Friday, Feb. 17 was an inspiring and timely celebration of the accomplishments of Reverend Doctor Harold Middlebrook. Middlebrook was presented with the 2017 CCI Diversity Award recognizing his more than fifty years of civil rights leadership and community involvement. Find out more.

Parman and West Join Forces to Honor Summar with PR Student Gift
Two 1994 University of Tennessee Public Relations alumni, Travis Parman and Mary Beth West, have joined forces to honor Dwayne Summar by increasing funding for the existing Dwayne Summar Public Relations Endowment. Their $35,000 collaborative gift will enrich the learning experiences of current and future public relations students and expand the fund’s reach and impact. Find out more.

DC Students
Com Studies Students Visit DC
Fifteen undergraduate communication studies students and three graduate assistants made the annual trip to Washington, DC, February 25 – March 2. The trip was partially funded by a VOLStarter campaign, which raised almost $1,500. The group was led by John Haas, director of the School of Communication Studies, and Dean Rice (BA/CS ‘94), chief of staff to Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett and CS lecturer. Find out more
