School of Information Sciences’ alumni along with current students and faculty came together for an alumni reception at the Atlanta World of Coca-Cola on Friday, January 20, 2017. The event was positioned between the end of one professional conference (the Association of Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) Annual Conference) and the beginning of a second conference (the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting).
New SIS Director Diane Kelly hosted the event to introduce herself to SIS alums and to allow alumni to reconnect with each other and the school. Laura Frizzell (MS/IS ’15), who’s been working for the World of Coca-Cola as an archivist assisting with the museum artifacts collection, was instrumental in helping to organize the event and museum tour.
“We hope to host many more similar alumni events in the future,” said Kelly. “Our alums appreciate the opportunity to network and share professional solutions to common challenges at these gatherings.”
SIS has alums in all 50 states and at least ten foreign countries due in part to the Schools’ early adoption of a distance education model. Students have been attending the graduate program from remote locations since 1973 and via the Internet since 1999.
Future SIS alumni events will be communicated through email notifications and social media. Please update your information at https://www.sis.utk.edu/alumni-update to be sure you receive notifications about future events.
