Twice a year, the Office of the Provost hosts Mic/Nite, a Pecha-Kucha format gathering, designed to enhance the intellectual, interdisciplinary, and cultural life of UT Knoxville’s faculty and staff. Select faculty members make short presentations to share their research with a wider audience and to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
Communication Studies Associate Professor Laura Miller represented CCI at the October 26, 2016 event by presenting, “The uncertainty is the hardest part: Communicating about health and navigating ambiguous illness trajectories.” The presentation examined how we manage illness-related uncertainty in the face of an unpredictable health trajectory. It also shared information on how to feel certain, despite ambiguous health recommendations, opinions, and prognoses. By improving our ability to communicate about health, we will be better equipped to manage illness-related challenges and tackle the health uncertainties of the future.
A video of Miller’s presentation will be available soon at https://utworks.tennessee.edu/micnite/Pages/results.aspx?sp=126
