Associate Professor Courtney Childers and Abbey Levenshus (Butler U.) had their paper, “Bringing the digital world to students: Partnering with the university communications office to provide social media experiential learning projects,” published in Communication Teacher, 30(4). http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/17404622.2016.1219041

CENTER FOR INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION STUDIES

Professor and CCI Associate Dean for Research Suzie Allard and Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir, Adjunct Instructor Mike Frame, CICS staff members Laura Moyers and Rachel Volentine, and CCI Doctoral Student Danielle Pollock all participated in the NSF-DataONE project All Hands Meeting this week in New Mexico. DataONE is a large international project, now in its 7th year that is building a cyberinfrastructure and culture of research data sharing for the earth and environmental sciences.  The UT team is involved in all aspects of DataONE, notably system development, member node support, usability, assessment of stakeholders, and sustainability and governance.

INFORMATION SCIENCES

Clinical Associate Professor Cindy Welch presented a talk on September 15 on children’s and young adult books for use as developmental bibliotherapy for graduate students in the UT College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences Grief Outreach Initiative (GOI). This Initiative pairs UT students with K-12 students in East Tennessee who are experiencing difficulties related to a variety of issues including loss, abandonment, and abuse. JOURNALISM & ELECTRONIC MEDIA

Howard Distinguished Professor Stuart N. Brotman has been elected to membership in The Hamilton Burnett Inn of Court, as its third UT faculty member (preceded by College of Law Distinguished Endowed Professors Joan MacLeod Heminway and Penny White). The Inn of Court is designed to improve the skills, professionalism and ethics of the bench and bar.
