Thirteen CCI faculty members received Dean’s Summer Research Grants (DSRG) to conduct a broad spectrum of research projects.
For example, JEM Assistant Professor Michael Martinez received DSRG funds to supplement his travel to conclude a final segment of a much larger project studying the images and memories of presidents from John F. Kennedy to Barack Obama through the eyes of their personal photographers. “The DSRG funds made it possible for me to conduct archival research at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California and the Richard M. Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, California. It also allowed me to record an oral history with Eric Draper, President George W. Bush’s personal photographer,” said Martinez.
A brief description of the topics on which CCI faculty members’ DSRG funded summer research projects focused is provided below.

Research is a critical part of the College’s mission and Dean’s Summer Research Grants provide a small amount of summer funding to help faculty members make important progress on research projects that ultimately lead to publications and sponsored research opportunities. Anyone interested in supporting CCI research funding should contact the CCI Development office at ccidevelopment@utk.edu.
