Friday February 26 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. readers will once again participate in the African American Read-In at the Dixie Marie Wooten Commons Area in Hodges Library. Students, faculty, staff and administrators are invited to read an excerpt from a favorite book by an African American author. If you want to participate as a reader, email Dr. Susan Groenke sgroenke@utk.edu, Director of the Center for Children’s and Young Adult Literature (CCYAL), to reserve a 5-minute time slot.
ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
Doctoral student Sejin Park, Zienab Shoieb (MS/C&I ‘15), and Professor Ron Taylor had their refereed journal article, “Message strategies in military recruitment advertising,” accepted for publication in Armed Forces and Society.
Assistant Professor Moonhee Cho’s article (co-authored with Maria De Moya of DePaul University), “Empowerment as a key construct for understanding public relations’ potential for community engagement,” was accepted for publication in the International Journal of Strategic Communication.
SCHOOL OF INFORMATION SCIENCES
Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir participated in the invitation-only “Future of the dissertation workshop” put on by the Council of Graduate Schools in Washington DC, January 28-29. As part of her participation, she presented a paper during the “Opportunities created by emerging technologies” session.
Assistant Professor Devendra Potnis’ co-authored research article, “Skills and knowledge needed to serve as mobile technology consultants for information organizations,” was accepted for publication by the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science (JELIS). Co-authors include: Reynard Regenstreif-Harms (Master’s student), Kanchan Deosthali (U. of Mary Washington), Professor Ed Cortez, and Professor Suzie Allard.
Potnis’ work was also featured in Global Health Hub based on an article published October 6, 2015 in Information Development Journal. The Global Health Hub article can be found here http://www.globalhealthhub.org/2016/01/27/8-economic-barriers-responsible-for-indias-gender-digital-divide/.
JOURNALISM & ELECTRONIC MEDIA
Director and Professor Peter Gross will travel to New York in the latter part of February to serve as a rating reviewer for the 2016 Freedom of the Press reports. This is the fourth consecutive year he has served as a rating reviewer. https://freedomhouse.org/report-types/freedom-press
