Associate Professor Lisa Fall served on a panel, “Successfully mediating our way across the online classroom – one keystroke at a time: Sharing best practices for public relations education,” at the PRSA Educator’s Academy conference in Atlanta on Nov. 7.


Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir presented a paper co-authored with Professor Suzie Allard and lecturer Mike Frame, “Data sharing and re-use: Barriers and incentives,” at the Synergy in Science: Partnering for Solutions annual 2015 meetings of the American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, Soil Science Society of America, and Entomological Society of America in Minneapolis on Nov, 18, 2015.

Tenopir also gave a talk, “The secret life of articles: From download metrics to downstream impact,” at the Charleston 35th Annual Conference on Book and Serials Acquisitions. SIS student Andrew Grissom presented a poster at the meeting, “The excavation of archaeological grey literature.”

Associate Professor Bharat Mehra had a second Diplomacy Lab proposal accepted by the US Department of State. His team of IS graduate students will develop an integrated web-based report delivered via GIS-based tools or StoryMap on the topic of “LGBTI issues: Analysis of historic participation of LGBTI persons in African culture.”  

Assistant Professors Carolyn Hank and Awa Zhu presented the research poster, “What we teach: An assessment of graduate-level digital curation syllabi,” at iPRES 2015: The 12th International Conference on Digital Preservation in Chapel Hill, NC on Nov. 4, 2015.  The poster is co-authored with MSIS graduate students Noah Lasley and Kylan Shireman and Niki Kirkpatrick (MS/IS ’15).


Professor Julie Andsager will present a paper, “Public trust in health information: Predicting medical skepticism and cancer fatalism,” at the annual conference of the Midwest Association for Public Opinion Research, Nov. 20-21, in Chicago.

WUTK 90.3 The Rock will hold a seasonal concert fundraiser, Exam Jam XI, Friday, Dec. 4 at The Concourse at the International beginning at 8 p.m. All proceeds from the concert will go directly to the non-profit WUTK Gift Fund, helping to keep the self-supporting broadcast lab and station on the air.
