COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION & INFORMATION
CCI’s 38th Annual Research Symposium will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. CCI faculty and student researchers are encouraged to present their research with a paper or poster. There will also be an opportunity for CCI faculty to share previously presented research in the Share Your Research Session. Paper abstracts are due December 15, 2015 and poster abstracts are due January 10, 2016.
SCHOOL OF ADVERTISING & PUBLIC RELATIONS
Assistant Professor Abbey Levenshus and Associate Professor Courtney Childers presented a research poster, “The forgotten internal agency: Recommendations for partnering with the university communications office to enhance PR undergraduate programs,” at the Public Relations Society of America’s Educators Academy conference last weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. Amy Blakely and Rebekah Winkler of the UT Office of Communications and Marketing were co-authors on the project.
SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES
Congratulations to Katie Reno for successfully completing and defending her dissertation. Thanks to her dissertation committee chair Associate Professor John Haas and her other committee members: Professor Virginia Kupritz, Associate Professor Laura Miller, and Professor Anne Smith (HCB). The title of Dr. Reno’s dissertation is “Proactive communication: An investigation of employee reactions to organizational communication problems.”
SCHOOL OF INFORMATION SCIENCES
Assistant Professor Kimberly Douglass and Associate Professor Bharat Mehra’s co-authored article, “A four frames analysis to address the information challenges of families of children with ADHD: Actions for public libraries to address the embedded power imbalances,” has been accepted for publication by LIBRI, the International Journal of Libraries and Information Services (LIBRI).
Assistant Professor Devendra Potnis had his research poster, “Designing responsive user interfaces of mobile applications and sites for information organizations,” accepted for Bridging the Spectrum 2016: The 8th Annual Symposium on Scholarship and Practiceorganized by Catholic University of America in February 2016. The poster is co-authored with MSIS graduate student Reynard Regenstreif-Harms.
JOURNALISM & ELECTRONIC MEDIA
Assistant Professor Mike Martinez reviewed Research in Progress abstracts and moderated a program at the 34th Annual American Journalism Historians Association in Oklahoma City.
Martinez also delivered a presentation on a panel commemorating Professor Emeritus Dwight Teeter, “Dwight Teeter: Levelheaded Libertarian,” at the 23rd Symposium on the 19th Century Press, The Civil War and Free Expression at the UT Chattanooga.
Assistant Professor Amber Roessner also presented a paper, “Woman as athlete?: The negotiation of the sporting woman in the Gilded Age press,” at the same Symposium held at UT Chattanooga.
