2015 Diversity & Inclusion Week Keynoters Announced
Two keynote speakers will be featured during the 2015 Diversity and Inclusion Week that begins on September 28.
San Jose State University Professor and Salzburg Fellow Dr. Jason Laker will deliver the first keynote on Monday, September 28 in CCI’s Patrick Auditorium from 10:10 to 11:05 a.m.
The second keynote speaker is Chris Geidner, legal editor for BuzzFeed. He will speak on Wednesday, September 30 from 5:45 – 6:45 p.m. in Patrick Auditorium. Find out more
Rentsch Receives NSF Grant
CCI Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Communication Studies Professor Joan Rentsch is part of a research team centered at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) that received a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant of $499,830 to conduct a study on “Investigating Team Knowledge Building in Complex Science and Statistics Problem Solving when the Teams Include Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Hearing College Students.” Find out more

CCI Global Scholars Program Heads “Down Under” During June 2015, Communication Studies Associate Professor Laura Miller traveled to Sydney, Australia to conduct an academic reconnaissance for CCI’s inaugural Global Communication Scholars Program. The trip was hosted by CAPA, an international education organization that facilitates student learning abroad opportunities in urban locations. Find out more
Andsager Receives National AEJMC Award JEM Professor Julie Andsager (PhD/C&I ’93) was named this year’s Outstanding Woman in Journalism & Mass Communication Education by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s (AEJMC) Commission on the Status of Women. Find out more
Fleming-May, Miller, Welch, Whiteside and White Promoted UT’s Board of Trustees recently approved Rachel Fleming-May’s (SIS), Laura Miller’s (CS) and Erin Whiteside’s (JEM) promotions to Associate Professor with tenure. In addition, UT Chancellor Jimmy Cheek approved Candace White’s (AdvPR) promotion to Full Professor, and UT Provost Susan Martin approved Cindy Welch’s (SIS) promotion to Clinical Associate Professor. All of these promotions were effective August 1, 2015.

CCI Student Participates in Prestigious News21 Program Rilwan Balogun (BS/JEM ’15) along with 27 of the top journalism students from across the country participated in the 2015 News21 program at Arizona State University during this past summer. Balogun’s participation was made possible by a generous gift from CCI Board of Visitors (BOV) member John Williams (BS/JEM ‘71) and his wife, Patty (SIS endorsement ‘86), of Kingsport, Tennessee.
