IS Assistant Professor Devendra Potnis is the inaugural recipient of the Gloria and David Sharrar Faculty Research Fellow Award established through a gift from current CCI Board of Visitors member Gloria Sharrar (MS/IS ’82) and her husband David (MAC/Bus. Adm. ’79). Potnis will use his $5,000 award to hire a graduate student to help advance his research agenda by (a) developing indicators to assess the social performance of over 113 mobile banking initiatives serving the unbanked poor in the developing world and (b) identifying the skills and knowledge necessary to educate library and information science graduate students on the use of mobile technology. “We are proud of Dr. Potnis’s leading edge research agenda and very grateful to Gloria and David Sharrar for their generous gift to establish the Sharrar Faculty Research Award and the Sharrar Information Professional Student Fellow Award,” said SIS Director Ed Cortez. “We greatly appreciate their vision and support of the important work of our faculty and students.”
