Assistant Professor Abbey Levenshus, doctoral student Laura Lemon, Associate Professor Michael Palenchar, and co-author Robert Heath (emeritus professor at the University of Houston) will present their research paper, “Marketplace commodification of risk communication: Consequences for risk bearers and implications for public relations,” at the 65th  International Communication Association conference in Puerto Rico, May 21 – 25.

Levenshus and co-author Dr. Oyvind Ihlen (University of Oslo) will also present a paper, “Extolling and extending dialogue: Proposing new directions for research on corporations’ use of social media,” at ICA.

Associate Professor Michael Palenchar will make a research presentation, “Risk communication infrastructure adjustment: What happens when social media policy changes,” to the TFC Risk Management Group in Istanbul, Turkey on May 8. He will also be giving several small risk communication workshops and meet with students from area universities during his time in Istanbul.



Associate Professor Courtney Wright and co-PI Abbas Rashidi (COE) received a $24,993 grant from the Engineering Information Foundation (EIF).  The title of their project is “‘ComCon’ summit: Innovative professional workshop series to enhance communication skills pertinent to construction engineering students.”



Assistant Professor Wade Bishop with co-author Angela Lee (education manager for Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI)) presented a paper, “Management and distribution of higher education site licenses,” at the Association of American Geographers annual meeting held April 21 – 25 in Chicago, IL.



Director and Professor Peter Gross had his article, “(Happily) Living in sin: Media and politics in Romania,” published in the Southeastern Europe Journal, Spring 2015, 39(1): 12-34.

AEJMC’s Electronic News Division named Professor Mark Harmon as the recipient of the 2015 Edward L. Bliss Award for Distinguished Broadcast Journalism Education. Harmon will receive the award on Friday, August 7 at the Electronic News Division meeting and social at AEJMC’s 2015 Convention in San Francisco.
