ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
Associate Professor Lisa Fall made three conference presentations at the 85th Annual Southern States Communication Association in Tampa. She earned a top paper award in the Communication Theory Division: “Application of 21st century communication theory: The arts and craft of parasocial interaction via a grass roots community relations event.” The paper was co-authored with Dr. Chuck Lubbers (U. of South Dakota) and Amanda Andrews (MS/C&I ’13).
COMMUNICATION STUDIES
Associate Professor Courtney Wright and co-PI Abbas Rashidi (COE) received a $24,993 grant from the Engineering Information Foundation (EIF). The title of their project is “ComCon” summit: Innovative professional workshop series to enhance communication skills pertinent to construction engineering students.”
INFORMATION SCIENCES
Assistant Professor Rachel Fleming-May’s article, “Humanities librarians and virtual verse: Changing collections and user services for online literature” (co-authored with University of Illinois English and Digital Humanities Librarian Harriett Green) has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Academic Librarianship.
In January, Fleming-May and Green presented a paper, “Virtual verse in the library: New forms of scholarly communication,” at the 2015 Modern Languages Association (MLA) Conference. They will present another paper, “Capturing virtual verse: A needs assessment on access and preservation of online-only literature,” this summer at the 2015 Digital Humanities Conference in Sydney, Australia.
In March, Fleming-May and Green presented a poster, “Capturing virtual verse: A needs assessment on access and preservation of online-only literature,” at the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) 2015 Conference in Portland, Oregon.
JOURNALISM & ELECTRONIC MEDIA
Professor Sam Swan conducted an external review of U. of North Alabama’s Department of Communication during the week of April 20. He also presented a keynote lecture on Press Freedom in Transition Countries-Impact of International Media Training for their Freedom of the Press Month observance.
