On March 13, two CCI faculty members shared their expertise with CCI’s Board of Visitors.
AdvPR Associate Professor Michael Palenchar provided the BOV with highlights of the presentation he will be making at CCI’s inaugural Faculty Showcase Event on Risk and Crisis Communication in Nashville. SIS Professor Dania Bilal provided an overview of her Google Research Project designed to gain a better understanding of Google search results readability by children.
ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
Assistant Professor Moonhee Cho will serve as a panelist discussing “Nonprofits’ Facebook as an engagement tool with publics” at the Fundraising and Philanthropy Communication Forum 2015 at the University of Iowa, April 10-11.
INFORMATION SCIENCES
Professor Dania Bilal is an invited plenary speaker at the 7th Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries International Conference. Her talk, “Beyond searching: Understanding young users’ holistic information interaction experiences,” will be in Paris, France, May 26-30.
Bilal chaired a contributed papers session at the iConference titled, “Extracting, comparing, and creating book and journal data.” She also participated in a whole day workshop on “Digital youth research network: Defining the field, building connections, and exploring collaborations.” The conference was held in Newport Beach, CA, March 24-27.
Bilal’s refereed paper, ”Exploring the effectiveness of library services and resources in academic libraries in Lebanon from the user’s perspectives,” will be presented at the Open Session of Section of Asia & Oceania, 2015 IFLA World Libraries and Information Congress (WLIC) in Cape Town, South Africa, August 15 – 21.The co-authored paper (with Dr. Fawz Abdallah of Lebanese University) will be published in the Conference proceedings.
COMMUNCATION STUDIES
Congratulations to Kyle Heuett for successfully defending his dissertation. Thanks to his chair Associate Professor Ken Levine and dissertation committee members: Professor Joan Rentsch, Associate Professor Michelle Violanti, and Professor Franz Kellermanns (UNC-Charlotte). The title of Heuett’s dissertation is “Group brainstorming in organizations: Implementing the functional theory of group decision-making as a means for increasing performance.”
